I was talking a customer in Edina who wanted to know how to make her room pop. She was torn — she wanted to be trendy but not trendy. Huh? Well, it makes sense when you think about it. You want to look trendy without making it looking like you’re TRYING to be trendy.
The first thing I referred her to was an article we wrote about the benefits of going with just white. It’s a trend that will never fade (4 Reasons to Consider Going With an All White Interior Paint in Maple Grove)
We have another article that dives into the Most Stylist Interior Paint Colors of 2018
But here’s what I suggested — an accent wall. An accent wall is a splash of color on just one wall. Color that instantly draws a guest’s eye to that portion of the room. Accent walls are great for a number of reasons.
- They’re easy to do
- They highlight a part of your room you’d like people to see
- Best of all: Easy and inexpensive to change if you get sick of the color
Accent walls can make a small space look bigger using bright colors, or bigger spaces look smaller using darker colors.
But, again, the great thing about an accent wall is if you don’t like it, it’s easy to change!
Accent Wall Ideas For the Bedroom
Let’s go back to making a small room, like a bedroom, look large. Pick cool, dark colors, like blues and purples, to create a sense of space. Consider using the ceiling as an accent wall! A cool color on your low ceiling will make it appear higher, giving you a sense of more space.
Don’t forget about the kids! Their room can use a little accent, too, with a wall of chalkboard paint! It’s the only time you won’t yell at the kids for writing on the wall.
Accent Wall Ideas For the Living Room
Bright colors, like orange & red can give your room the energy and pop it needs. This is a definite reflection of your personality. If your living room is all white, then a deep, rich hue adds some deepness to the room. Want to make your room look wider than it is? Add some horizontal stripes using shades of the same color.
